Eleven Months Down, One to Go!

I had two goals for July.

The first was to write every day.  I fell significantly short of the mark, writing only 13 days of “Morning Pages”, a concept created by Julia Cameron.  Where I crashed and burned was actually writing in the morning.  When I put pen to paper after my walk and breakfast smoothie, I completed the requisite three pages relatively easily.  When I didn’t write in the morning, I usually didn’t bother writing at all.  Even though I didn’t even get a passing grade on this goal, I do have 39 pages of thoughts, gripes, fears, wishes, and dreams.

My second goal was rather vague, in that I would continue self-care as I’ve been doing since the blog’s September 2012 start date.  On the exercise front, I’ve walked every morning this month and have consistently reached 10, 000 steps or more.  I credit much of this walking success to my Fitbit, which readily displays my progress and how close I am to my target.  On the food front, I’ve fallen off the nutritarian mountain.  Apart from my fruit and vegetable vegan smoothies every morning, I have not been very mindful about what I shovel in.  On the sleep front, I go to bed when I’m tired and, since I have no alarm clock, I wake up naturally.  Finally, on the receiving of energetic and physical modalities front, I’ve knocked this one out of the ballpark.  I’ve received three Healing Touch sessions, one Reiki session, four massages, one reflexology session, three chiropractic adjustments, and one Raindrop Technique.

Bye-bye, July!

Chakra Talk – Part 7 of 7
Activating our own energy centers

Crown Chakra – the energy center of spirit
Location:  top of the head
Color vibration:  violet/lavendar changing to white
Musical note:  B
Element:  thought
Physical body areas influenced:  brain, including the cerebral cortex, central nervous system, biorhythms

I’ll give thanks right now to Healing Touch Canada for offering practical suggestions to engage the chakras in its E-Connections with Healing Touch Canada, Inc.  I love online resources that provide me with ideas to nurture myself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  I’ve printed all these suggestions on file cards.  Every day, I randomly pick a card and try to incorporate that activity into my schedule.

  • Give thanks before going sleep each night or upon awakening (or both).
  • Have images in your home and office that remind you of the sacred or universal oneness.
  • Listen to spiritual chants.
  • Meditate on a regular basis, in a way that works for you.
  • Volunteer and support others.

Brow Chakra – the energy center of intuition
Location:  center of the brow, between the eyebrows
Color vibration:  indigo blue
Musical note:  A
Element:  light
Physical body areas influenced:  eyes, ears, sinuses, nose

I’m exchanging Healing Touch with a friend tomorrow, but today I can engage my brow chakra by trying any of these practical tips.  E-Connections with Healing Touch Canada, Inc. offers suggestions for engaging all the chakras; these suggestions can be found at www.healingtouchcanada.net

  • Clean your living space.
  • Create a new food item and serve it on your best dishes.
  • Each morning, imagine what it would feel, look, and sound like if you were to have a beautiful day.
  • Investigate a long held belief and look for new or other ways of seeing it.
  • For 3 days, notice the judgements you make about yourself and others and refrain from speaking them.
  • Take in the beauty around you.

Throat Chakra – the energy center of communication
Location:  in the suprasternal notch at the base of the throat
Color vibration:  light blue
Musical note:  G
Element:  sound
Physical body area influenced:  throat, neck, voice, upper airway, and lungs

I can’t sing to save my life.  I try to tap into my intuition and think I do a fairly good job when offering Healing Touch.  I endeavor to speak my truth at all times but it isn’t always easy.  I definitely need to remember to stretch, especially in my shoulder area.  The easiest suggestion to activate and engage my throat chakra is to wear something blue around my neck.  Thanks, Healing Touch Canada, Inc. for these great ideas.   (www.healingtouchcanada.net)

  • Chant, tone, or sing.  Experiment with sounds/vibrations.
  • Listen to your intuition.
  • Practice speaking the truth, to yourself and others.
  • Remember to do some gentle exercises to open up the neck and shoulder area.
  • Wear something blue around your neck.

  • Eat fresh green salads or green vegetables.
  • Forgive yourself or someone else.
  • Instead of doing things alone, ask for help.
  • Read a funny book or watch a comedy.
  • Try some rose essential oil in your bath, in your aura, or over the heart area.

Root Chakra – the energy center of survival/grounding
Location:  base of spine
Color vibration: red
Musical note:  C
Element:  earth
Physical body area influenced:  hips, legs, feet, perineum, bones

Our bodies are constantly working to be in a state of balance.  When we lose that balance, Healing Touch can help restore harmony.  When we are unable to go for a full-body energy balancing session, there are activities we can do to activate or engage our own chakras.  Thanks to Healing Touch Canada for offering these practical suggestions in its E-Connections with Healing Touch Canada, Inc. online newsletter, which can be found at www.healingtouchcanada.net

  • Connect with the earth and, as your awareness moves downward, invite the earth energy to rise up to connect and support you.
  • Dance/move to music that brings you more deeply into your body.  Remember to breathe.
  • Eat root vegetables and red coloured foods.

hugI got my fill of oxytocin today.  I was delighted to have a Reiki session with a friend, not only because I needed a full body energy balancing but because I got hugs before and after the session.  I was further delighted to have an angel reading with another friend, a session that also included hugs.  Apparently, hugs do more than release oxytocin, at least according to Virginia Satir, a leading family therapist.  Satir posits that we need 4 hugs a day for survival, 8 hugs a day for maintenance, and 12 hugs a day for growth.  Follow this link for further information on hugs.

10 natural moisturizersAfter yesterday’s post about the Dirty Dozen ingredients to avoid in cosmetics, I’m keen to try one of these natural moisturizers.  Since I love the smell of coconut, mostly because it conjures images of tropical holidays, I’m keen to try this recipe for coconut oil body butter.  For the article which accompanies this recipe, follow the link at the bottom.

DIY Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter

*1 Cup of Organic Coconut Oil

* 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (optional)

* A few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance (also optional) (lavendar or vanilla or whatever you prefer)

* A glass jar with a tight lid

* An electric hand mixer ( a blender or food processor WON’T work because it warms the coconut oil up too much!)
